AR SLAM effects for Messenger Kids were back camera effects we used to entertaining interactive scenes for users to project into their environment. Most we primarily toy sized and designed for kids to find delightful. Concepts were created in group brainstorms and voted on. An artist would be assigned to final effect and create the 3D art, Goose our lead animator would animate, and I would help setup the file in Spark AR, finalize any particle effects setup, optimize the models, and textures, and then script the interactions, such as the gravity on off state, and the tapping to wake up the owl and the code to switch him between states. Particle effects and shaders were generally a collaborative effort to make sure we hit the right look and feel but still run optimized on lower end mobile devices such as Kindle Fire tablets or older iPhones.
